Jacob: From "Imposter" to "Prince of God"

*Genesis 32:24-25 - "So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him til daybreak. When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob's hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man".

Innate leaders have it all, right? ... Not always. Even big leaders with a huge natural ability and purpose can have a difficult time, especially with their character. This was a reality for Jacob. From the beginning he exercised a great amount of influence. Rich, strong, with influence, and blessed with a big family, Jacob appeared to have it all!

But a leader that only goes their own way and seeks to benefit himself cannot be a productive instrument in God's hands. God had to mold Jacob's character in order for him to be useful. During that process, Jacob, "the imposter" turned into Israel, a "prince of God" that had a principal purpose of serving God more than himself.

Consider your natural ability to direct as a gift from God, but your character as a gift that you must present to God. Remember, each time you are confronted by the weight of adversity, you are being prepared, just as Jacob was, to serve God better and to direct the people.
